But the good news is that there are ways you can ‘design out’ the clutter. So whether you’re revamping or designing from scratch, you can create a sleeker, more organised and more visually appealing space.
But if you can clear away the countertop clutter, you don’t need to do either of these things. With the worktop clear, cleaning takes just a matter of moments.
1. Go magnetic
Magnetic storage solutions are the ideal way to get clutter off your worktop, while still ensuring you have a practical, usable kitchen space.
Magnetic knife racks and spice racks in particular are so easy to use. You simply need to reach out and take what you need, then pop it back again at a touch. You can tuck them away, or leave them on display – it’s up to you.
And it’s so much neater and cleaner than having freestanding knife blocks and spice racks taking up room on the countertop.
2. Think of new solutions for small countertop appliances
Countertop appliances such as kettles, toasters, coffee machines and similar are essential for the everyday use of your kitchen. But they do take up space, which can eat up too much of your usable work areas - especially in a small kitchen.
So, it could be an idea to think of ways to replace them. For example:
- Use the grill on your oven instead of a toaster
- Replace your kettle with an instant hot water tap.
You’ll still have the functions you need, but without the need for small appliances cluttering up your workspace.
3. Use hooks, racks and rails
There are two kinds of ‘clutter’ in a kitchen. There’s actual, tangible clutter, and then there’s visual clutter.
If the first is what you’re trying to get rid of and you don’t mind at all about the second, then racks, rails and hooks are the ideal solution.
You can hang up utensils, pans and even cleaning essentials, so that they’re off the worktop but within easy reach.
